“Why Go?”

Build It Before It Rains Series
Isaiah 6:1–8; Acts 2:44 (NIV)

  1. Introduction
    1. When it comes to church attendance, good intentions are not enough.
    2. Early church leaders called church attendance a holy habit.
  2. Reasons For Faithful Attendance
    1. Draws Us Closer To God

      (Isaiah 6:1–3)
      Isaiah's Commission

1In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3And they were calling to one another:

      “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”

      1. God makes life fuller and exciting.
      2. Question: Is God your top priority?

    2. Gives Us Compassion For Others

      (Isaiah 6:4–5)
4At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. 5“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.”

      1. Did you know that regular church-goers:
        1. live longer?
        2. are more loving?
        3. more generous?
        4. more family-oriented?
        5. more involved in working in their community?
      2. Ever ask, “Why?”
        1. The Church teaches love.
        2. The Church teaches us to see every person as Christ in disguise.
      3. Question: How are you doing in showing compassion to others?

    3. Calls Us To Server

      (Isaiah 6:6–8)
6Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.” 8Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”

And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

      1. What is He calling you to do?
