“Let's Keep America Free!”

John 8:31–36

  1. Introduction
    1. Still others see it as something to be treasured.
      1. They see it as a gift bought at great a price.
      2. They know soldiers died for our political freedom.
      3. Jesus died for our spiritual freedom.
      4. Freedom is not cheap but very expensive.
    2. Freedom comes from God!
      1. It is God who instills the desire for freedom.
    3. Our country was founded by godly men and women with a clear understanding of right and wrong!
  2. Religious Freedom
    John 8:31–36

    The Children of Abraham

    31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

    33 They answered him, “We are Abraham's descendants[a] and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”

    34 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

    1. The key to freedom is truth. — vs. 31–32
      1. Truth is absolute by definition.
    2. There are basic moral values that apply to all of us!
      1. In America, I have the freedom to ignore without severe and maybe life-threatening consequences but there are always consequences to choices!
      2. Freedom comes from truth.
    3. Truths that produces freedom
      1. Jesus died just for you.
        Romans 5:8

        But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

      2. God blesses those who acknowledge Him.
        Proverbs 3:5–6

        5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
        and lean not on your own understanding;

        6 in all your ways acknowledge him,
        and he will make your paths straight. [a]

  3. Conclusion
    1. We need to protect our political and spiritual freedom!
      1. We protect our freedom by telling the truth.
    2. May America choose freedom!
    3. May each of us choose freedom in Jesus!
