“Family Values”

Matthew 22:37–40; Psalm 19:7–11 NIV

  1. Introduction
    1. School, home, and church worked together teaching core values!
    2. There were absolutes and we were secure in them.
    3. Children need and want boundaries
    4. Our nation is experiencing a moral breakdown, all in the name of individual rights.
      1. The bottom line: It’s all about me!
    5. What has happened to our country?
      1. God has been removed from the mainstream of society!
      2. He has been replaced with moral relativism
      3. You become judge and God
      4. The end result of moral relativism is anarchy and moral chaos!
    6. Truth: Without God there is no reference point!
      1. Everyone becomes a law unto himself.
  2. God’s Family Values

    Matt. 22:37–40

37Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

    Psalm 19:7–11

7 The law of the LORD is perfect,
           reviving the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
           making wise the simple.

8 The precepts of the LORD are right,
           giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are radiant,
           giving light to the eyes.

9 The fear of the LORD is pure,
           enduring forever.
The ordinances of the LORD are sure
           and altogether righteous.

10 They are more precious than gold,
           than much pure gold;
           they are sweeter than honey,
           than honey from the comb.

    11 By them is your servant warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.

    1. The One who issued the absolutes is:
      1. Eternal
      2. Transcendent
      3. Constant
      4. Unmoveable
  3. Conclusion
    1. The real issue is not rights or freedom; the real issue is God!
    2. Is God honored and loved in your home?
    3. What are your family values? Love or Rights?

LET’S GET BACK TO THE BASICS OF LOVE!
