“A Lifestyle of Thanksgiving”

Psalm 16:1–6 (NIV)

  1. Introduction
  2. Building A Lifestyle Of Thanksgiving

    (Psalm 16:1–6)
    A miktam of David.

    1Keep me safe, O God,
        for in you I take refuge.
    2I said to the LORD, “You are my Lord;
        apart from you I have no good thing.”
    3As for the saints who are in the land,
        they are the glorious ones in whom is all my delight.
    4The sorrows of those will increase
        who run after other gods.
        I will not pour out their libations of blood
        or take up their names on my lips.
    5LORD, you have assigned me my portion and my cup;
        you have made my lot secure.
    6The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
        surely I have a delightful inheritance.

    1. Acknowledge That God Is The Source Of All Good Things In Our Lives

      (vs. 1–2)
      2I said to the LORD, “You are my Lord;
          apart from you I have no good thing.”

      1. Don’t focus on what we do not have.
      2. Focus on the good things we have.
    2. Recognize The Pleasant Places In Our Lives

      (vs. 3–6a)
      3As for the saints who are in the land,
          they are the glorious ones in whom is all my delight.
      4The sorrows of those will increase
           who run after other gods.
          I will not pour out their libations of blood
          or take up their names on my lips.
      5LORD, you have assigned me my portion and my cup;
          you have made my lot secure.
      6The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;

    3. Look Ahead To Better Days

      (v. 6b)
           surely I have a delightful inheritance.

      1. David is saying, “The best is yet to come.”
      2. Each day should be an adventure waiting to see what God’s going to do in and through us.
      3. TRUTH: When we don’t look forward to the future, we don’t enjoy the present or appreciate the past.
  3. Conclusion
    1. A thankful heart enables us to recognize God’s Presence in our lives past, present and future.
    2. A thankful heart gives meaning to the past, present and future.
    3. A thankful heart opens the door to His continued blessing.
