“How’s Your Love Life?”

I Samuel 17:32–50

  1. Introduction
    1. What you love most determines your action.
  2. An Affair of the Heart
    1. God is not calling us to religious belief.
      1. Many have a conversion of the head.
      2. Need a conversion of the hands.
    2. But God is calling us to an affair of the heart.
    3. God is passionate about you!
    4. (John 3:16)
16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

    5. You are of sacred worth to God!
      1. Humanism says you are a speck in the cosmos.
      2. God says you are the crown of His creation.
  3. Faith Versus Belief

    (I Samuel 16:6–7)
6 When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the LORD’s anointed stands here before the LORD.”

7 But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

    1. Humans look at the outward appearance.
    2. God looks at the heart.
      1. Belief is about what we profess.
      2. Faith is about our passion.
    3. We’ve allowed our hearts to pursue other passions.
  4. David’s Passion for God

    (I Samuel 17:32–33, 40–50)
32 David said to Saul, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.“

33 Saul replied, “You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a boy, and he has been a fighting man from his youth.”

    1. Israel was full of religion.
    2. David had an incredible affair of the heart.
    3. Saul had religion not passion.
  5. Conclusion
    1. Everyone needs to be in the game, swinging.
