“No Compromise”

Mark 14:53–54; 66–67; Matthew 20:20–21

  1. Introduction
    1. Passion Week reminds us that we are to fulfill God’s call on our lives without compromise.
  2. Symptoms of Compromise
    1. Following Jesus at a distance

      (Mark 14:53–54)
53 They took Jesus to the high priest, and all the chief priests, elders and teachers of the law came together.
54 Peter followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. There he sat with the guards and warmed himself at the fire.

      1. Compromise always leads to denial
      2. We can keep our distance by:
        1. _____________________
        2. _____________________
      3. Following Jesus is costly
      4. We must not follow Him at a distance
    2. Embracing the values of the enemy

      (Mark 14:54)
Peter followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. There he sat with the guards and warmed himself at the fire.

      1. The values of our culture are not neutral
        1. Examples:
          1. ____________________
          2. ____________________
    3. Trying to blend in

      (Mark 14:66–67)
66 While Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came by.
67 When she saw Peter warming himself, she looked closely at him. “You also were with that Nazarene, Jesus,” she said.

      1. Once we are exposed to Jesus, we do not look the same
    4. Elevation of self

      (Matthew 20:20–22)
20 Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him.
21 “What is it you want?” he asked. She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.”
22 “You don't know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them. “Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?” “We can,” they answered.

      1. Seen in:
        1. Pride
        2. Power
        3. Prestige
      2. Following Jesus is about God using you to be seen through
  3. Conclusion
