“Freedom From Financial Fear”

Part 3
Phillipians 4:19

  1. Introduction
    1. God says He will meet all our needs.
    2. (Phillipans 4:19)
      19 And my God… will meet… all your needs… according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

    3. But there are conditions. He will meet our needs if we:
      1. Are His children.
      2. Ask.
      3. (Jam 4:2–3)
        2 You do not have, because you do not ask God.
        3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

      4. Are content.
      5. (Phil 4:11–13)
        11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.
        12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
        13 I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

    4. Every fear is lost in an attribute of Christ.
      1. Fear of the future—faithfulness.
      2. Fear of failure—grace.
      3. Fear of financial loss—provision.
        1. God is more concerned about our character than our comfort.
        2. If we are only content with things, it is idolatry.
        3. Contentment is being grateful for what we have and trusting for the rest.
    5. There is a difference between need and greed.
    6. God’s guarantee in Philippians is conditional.
  2. Additional Conditions For Meeting Our Needs
    1. We Practice Giving in Faith

      (I Cor. 9:6–7)
      6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
      7 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

      1. God is generous
      2. (vs. 8)
        And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

      3. God expects our tithe
      4. (Mal. 3:8–10 NLT)
        8 Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. But you ask, “How do we rob you?” In tithes and offerings.
        9 You are under a curse—the whole nation of you—because you are robbing me.
        10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. “Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.” [emphasis mine]

    2. We Maintain Our Integrity
    3. (Prov. 16:11)
      Honest scales and balances are from the LORD; all the weights in the bag are of his making.

    4. We Trust Him With Every Area of Our Life
    5. (Matthew 6:25–33)
      25 Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?
      26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
      27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
      28 And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.
      29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
      30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
      31 So do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?”
      32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
      33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

  3. Conclusion
    1. Are you afraid?
      1. The answer to all fear is Jesus!
