“God’s Heart Exposed”

Proverbs 18:21; 21:23, Colossians 4:6; Proverbs 25:11

INTRODUCTION: Have you ever been surprised by the love of a spouse, children or friends that exposed their heart in dimensions you have not seen before?

  1. REVEALS HIS LOVE (verse 1)
    1. Laid aside His garments (verse 4)
      1. Clothes either reveal or conceal.
      2. First steps toward intimacy: Self-disclosure with vulnerability.
    2. Stop - think words:
      1. Belonging (verse 6, 9)
      2. Abandoned (verse 2, 10, 11)
    3. Teaches a liberating formula (verse 1,3,4)
      1. To love God is to let God love you.
      2. To let God love you is to let Him know you.
      3. To let God know you is to be open to Him.
  2. HE TOOK A TOWEL (verse 4)
    1. The true use of superiority is service
    2. Servanthood: Spontaneous work to please others.
  3. POURED WATER (verse 5)
    1. “Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.” Philippians 2:6,7
    2. Jesus fills the basin himself (Romans 12:3)
      1. Imputed Righteousness: Gives us faith
      2. Provides the means of cleansing
        1. Old testament source is physical life (Gen1:2) and physical healing (Lev. 14:8)
        2. New Testament source is eternal life. (John 4; Matthew 3:6)
  4. WASHED FEET “Imparted”
    1. Jesus applies the cleansing.
    2. The greatest words you will ever hear - "You are Forgiven".

“The cleansing stream, I see, I see! I plunge and, O it cleanseth me! O praise the Lord, it cleanseth me! It cleanseth me, yes, cleanseth me!
